Harvey thought the pilots should see Mt Aspiring (our favourite photo) and share the ramblings of Sunday in Invercargill. Since writing this we have crossed the Foveaux Strait in both directions, almost completed the Flyinn tour and trading the Cessna for a Ford Focus this afternoon.
New Zealand wines are more affordable in Woolworths Gunnedah, than in Queenstown NZ supermarkets.
Deb has worn all the clothes she packed, most of them at the same time.
Mountain flying is amazing, as is the skill of the pilots we’ve had in the right hand seat to help Harvey hone his mountain skills.
An Australian bush pilot would be crazy to attempt this without local guidance. It’s chalk and cheese.
Snow flurries and cloud make flying interesting, as does the wind. It’s relentless, accelerated and chilled on its way from Antarctica, skimming over the alps to penetrate every valley.
Today (Sunday) wind daunted even our intrepid local pilot, who declared it too strong to cross the Foveaux Strait to Stewart Island. We are overnighting in Invercargill (itself an experience) hoping for calm skies tomorrow morning.
The passenger is the smartie. Rear seat views swing from stupendous to spectacular.
Harvey is learning. When he hears Deb’s camera click seriously, he’s handing over to the local pilot.
The photo we are attempting to attach is Mt Aspiring, slightly shorter than Mt Cook but more visible on the day we flew past.
Just another day in pilot heaven.
We’ll be back soon to share the 40’ temps with you.
