It all started with a call from Captain Brooker to meet for some pre-festive aviation. The occasion was a a farewell gathering for Bruce Reid, our almost 86 year old club member who is heading to the coast for a bit of exciting retirement.
Over the day, over 50 Club members, friends and family came out to the airport to join in.
The post BBQ lunch event (catered by Ryan and his merry men) started with a quick briefing from Capt Pete on a competition involving an assessed preflight on the Club’s 150, VH-NWP. The results are as yet to come to hand but all sots of inducements and diversionary tactics could not stop the participants from doing a mighty job. Points gained will go to the annual Pilot of the Year Award.
This was followed by some flying; as it should be. Much fun was had by all.
The troops reassembled about 6.30 for a quiet drink, an enjoyable BBQ organised by Bill, Trevor and Matt and then a memorable farewell to Reidy. After a great dinner, President Harvey used an email from former President Doug Hawkins to sum up what Bruce Reid has been to our Club.
Then it was Reidy’s turn. There was much smiling, laughing and all together too much good humour for a farewell. From flying to nude swimming, motor bikes to dancing, retirement to Club history – it was all there.
Thanks Bruce. There will never be another Reidy!
